Why the Center for Black Studies Research?

Center for Black Studies Research LogoFor over twenty years, the UCSB Center for Black Studies Research has worked to provide a forum for Haitian Studies scholars, publishing The Journal of Haitian Studies, the only peer-reviewed journal devoted to Haitian history, politics and culture. The Center also houses KOSANBA, the Congress of Santa Barbara, a scholarly association for the study of Haitian Vodou.

Human Rights Council

Human Rights Council LogoThe Human Rights Council is an activist forum centered on facilitating and amplifying the progressive interaction of student groups within UCSB and our greater community.

Haiti Soleil

Haiti Soleil LogoHaiti Soleil is a nonprofit corporation based in Berkeley, California. Haiti Soleil is founded on the belief that to bring about social change in Haiti, the country needs to empower young people by giving them access to safe nurturing spaces, and providing them with opportunities for intellectual exchange and creative expression. We believe the potential of a society is fulfilled only when all its citizens have access to information. Haiti Soleil seeks to cultivate the intellectual growth of Haiti’s children so they will become self-sufficient, and responsible advocates for a just and civilized society.
