Ventana Abierta |
(Spanish-language Literary Journal) In September, 2005, Ventana Abierta, edited by Luis Leal (Chicano Studies) and Victor Fuentes (Spanish and Portuguese), and sponsored by the Chicano Studies Institute, celebrated its tenth year of publication. Ventana Abierta has given the Institute international publicity and has made very significant contributions to Spanish-language arts. The journal continues to be a leader in its field. |

Affirmative Action and Diversity Project(Electronic Resource) |
Since 1996, the Institute has offered the most highly regarded source of research regarding Affirmative Action that is available on the internet. This site has won numerous awards, has been profiled in the Los Angeles Times. A resource that draw together original research from dozens of peer-reviewed academic sources, the site offers a rigorous approach to the topic which has been of great value to student, researchers, the media, policy makers and the general public. The information collected here is intended to help teachers and discussion leaders who plan to address the immigration debate in the classroom or in community venues. While some of the programming information included here is specific to the larger Santa Barbara area, most of these resources speak to issues that transcend local or regional settings. Race and Pedagogy Project(Interactive Electronic Resource) |
This interactive site presents diverse scholarship regarding race and pedagogy. The site is an academic resource intended to provide teachers, students, researchers and the interested public with on-site research summaries and citations as well as bibliographies of research and teaching materials. This project has grown out of continuing discussions regarding anti-racist teaching strategies, discussions that have evolved in a wide range of disciplines and educational settings. The site attempts to convey the range of these engagements by highlighting representative examples. |
