How to get started
When you log in to ORahs, click on the "create" key on the left side of the page. You will be asked if you want to see if your project is exempt or not.
- If you know your protocol is NOT exempt, you can answer "no" and skip this part.
- If your project is determined to be exempt, you will be asked to fill out one page of info.
- If it's not exempt, you will be transferred to the first page of the regular protocol.
Hints:
- There are directions on how to complete the protocol on each tab
- Fill out everything completely
- Click save a lot (that saves what you've done in your "work in progress (WIP)" queue)
- When you're done with a page, click "save & continue" to go to the next page
- You can click around the protocol with the tabs on top, but make sure you save before you change tabs
- Submit your protocol from the "progress" tab
How to add an Associate Account
- Log in to ORahs
- If this is the first time logging in, you'll have to pick your challenge question first
- Click on "MyInfo" at the top of the page
- Click on "add associate"
- Enter last name of person who needs the account and search
- Find the person you want and click "select" on the left side of page
- They now have an account and they can create a protocol of their own
How to add a Proxy account
- Log in to ORahs
- If this is the first time logging in, you'll have to pick your challenge question first
- Click on "MyInfo" at the top of the page
- Click on "add proxy"
- Enter last name of person who needs the account and search
- Find the person you want and click "select" on the left side of page
- They now have an account
- As you create, renew, or modify your protocols, you will need to add a specific proxy to each individual protocol.
How to add an ORbit record number
- Log in to ORahs
- Locate and select your approved protocol from "approved" queue
- Click on the "add title" command on the right
- Locate the appropriate grant on the ORbit record pop up list and select it
- Click "add ORbit record number"
- Confirm it is the same research
- Done
How to modify a protocol
- Log in to ORahs
- Locate and select your approved protocol from "approved" queue
- Click on "modify" on the left side of the page
- Make the changes in the body of the protocol
- On the "progress" tab, provide a sentence or two summary of the changes
- Click "Submit"
How to submit a protocol on your Faculty Advisor Queue
- Log in to ORahs
- Click on the "faculty advisor" queue
- Locate protocol and select it
- Read through
- If it looks good to you, click "submit to HSC" on "progress" tab
- If it needs corrections, type them in the "corrections" boxes and click "Return to Associate" on the "progress" tab
- Done
How to print your consent forms
- Log in to ORahs
- Locate and select your approved protocol from the "approved" queue
- Click on the correct SubID
- Click on "consent forms" tab
- Click on "print" tab for each consent form (it will print with the expiration date of the protocol on top)
How to print a copy of the approved protocol
- Log in to ORahs
- Click on "Approved" queue
- Make note of which subID you need to print
- Choose "Reports" from the left side of the page
- Choose "full protocol"
- Type in subID and click "get report"
- You will see a link to the report in red letters, click on it
- At the top there are two icons, disk (to export) and printer (to print)
- Click on the export icon, choose all pages, and click export. This will create a PDF copy of your protocol
- Now you can print the whole thing
- The bottom of the protocol has all the approval information (The signatures are just for our office and aren't needed to show approval. The PI would have already submitted a Signature page for the protocol to show up in the "Approved" queue.)
How to renew a protocol
- Log in to ORahs
- Click on the "Expired/due to" queue
- Locate the protocol you want to renew; do not click on it
- On the right side of the page, there are several commands (mod, renew w/ changes, renew w/o changes, add title, etc.)
- Click on the appropriate "renew" choice
- If the renewed protocol was created in ORahs, all protocol text, consent forms, and attachments will be copied over to the new protocol; if the protocol was not originally created in ORahs, only a minimal set of data will be copied over and you will need to copy and paste or retype protocol text until the protocol is complete
- Add a progress report at the "progress" tab
- Click submit
How to complete the Human Subjects training module
- Faculty/Researchers can find the training log-in code by going to "MyInfo" in ORahs; this code can be given to anyone who needs to complete the module
- Go to Training Module
- Log in with your (or your faculty advisor's) training code that is in the form XXXX-XX-XX-###
- Owner: last name of training code owner
- Complete module; only use module navigation, not back or anything else in the web browser
- When completed, you'll get an e-mail confirmation
How to print the Signature Page
After receiving Provisional Approval for your protocol, follow these directions to create your "Signature Page":
- Log in ORahs
- Click on "Provisional Approval" queue
- Make note of subID for which you need a signature page
- On left hand side of the page, choose "Reports"
- Choose "full protocol"
- Type in sub ID and click "get report"
- You will see a link to the report in red letters; click on it
- At the top there are two icons, disk (to export) and printer (to print)
- Click on the printer icon, choose all pages, and click print
- It will ask if you want to open or save; choose "open," which will create a PDF copy of your protocol
- Print the PDF and sign
- Submit the signed Signature page to the Office of Research, 3rd Floor, Cheadle Hall.
Note: the Mac versions are very large and may take a few minutes to download (on a fast network)
If you have Windows XP and can't view the videos, use Media Player 11 free download from Microsoft.
