Limited Submission Awards & Grants

Limited Submission programs restrict the number of applications, nominations, or proposals that an institution is able to submit to an agency. These programs require that campuses screen pre-proposals or nominations to determine which will go forward to the sponsor.

The Office of Research (OR) is responsible for announcing the majority of limited submission programs to the campus and coordinating the campus review process. When OR receives more potential submission than the campus is authorized to submit (as specified in each program’s guidelines), a campus review will be developed in consultation with the Vice Chancellor for Research. All applicants and their deans will be notified of the results. For campus instructions and agency requirements for specific programs, see the links below. Typically campus pre-proposals are due to the Office of Research two months prior to the agency deadline. The most recent program deadline is provided below and will be updated when new information becomes available.

Unless otherwise specified in the campus letter, pre-proposals for campus review will include up to three pages of project description responsive to the particular call, a one to two page curriculum vitae for each investigator, and a one-page budget summarizing the total project period. Requests for campus cost sharing or other resources not covered in the request to the funding agency, or exceptions to campus policies must be identified at the preproposal stage and included in the budget.

Those interested in submitting an application or nomination to a limited submission program should contact Whitney Winn in Research Development at funding@research.ucsb.edu or ext. 8891.
