| UCSB provides a rich environment
for the conduct of research through almost 100 research institutes,
centers, and other specialized units. These range from long
term broadly based federal and state research centers such
as our Kavli Insitute for Theoretical Physics to smaller units
established to accomplish very specific research missions.
Many of these research units provide excellent opportunities
for graduate and undergraduate students to participate in the
