Fiscal Year 2010-2011 Research Statistics

UCSB Sponsored Projects Statistics FY 2010-2011

Research at a Glance 2011

The total funding awarded to sponsored projects at UCSB in 2010–11, from July 1 to June 30, was $184 million.

UCSB received $155.8 million in direct and indirect federal funding in 2010–11.

Awards in the Indirect Federal category were given initially to another institution for a multi-institution project, then flowed through for work performed at UCSB. Of the $27.2 million in indirect federal flowthrough, non-profit sponsors provided $16.4 million; UC, $5.7 million; industry, $5.0 million; and state and local government, $714,000. Thus, 85 percent of the total sponsored project funding originates with the federal government.

Direct federal funding amounts to about 70 percent of the campus' extramural total in 2010-11. The National Science Foundation provided more funding to UCSB in 2010-11—$52 million—than did any other agency.
